(World on a String Series, lucky 13, in the Sugar from the Future verse created by gleerant and supplemented by themostrandomfandom. Thanks again Roch & JJ!)
Her duck boots squinch up to her ankles into the moss as her brother climbs onto her shoulders. Her moms have been coming to this…
Fic: Ghosts
POV: “Sugar Motta,” second person
Summary: “All at once you are neither here nor there, drifting between two places to which you simultaneously belong and don’t belong. What if everything goes wrong and you have nowhere to belong to completely?”

Note: Since a few others did this, I just wanted this on my own page for reference. That, and now I get to add all of the fun links and notes that would have otherwise revealed me as the author (if the subject matter and style didn’t already give me away, which I think they did). I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Kir, my beta, the other half of my brotp, and the author of the photobooth scene, because I know literally nothing about photobooths, photography, etc., whereas she knows a hell of a lot.
“Mama says gummy bears live in these things. I think they moved out because I ate one and it doesn’t taste like candy.”
“If you think you’re gonna get me to eat those, we only have a deal if you happen to ‘drop’ some steak off the table next time.”
The first words he spoke to her were, “She does.” For him, that was a fairly generous response to a rambling “But she totally doesn’t feel the same way, right?” when he could have gone with his customary shrug.
Brad Ellis is not a man of many words, and definitely not a man of many nice ones. But he gets the feeling that because Santana Lopez shares at least that latter half of his disposition, that’s enough to constitute a silent bond. And that bond means he doesn’t mind stepping outside of his comfort zone of grumpy reticence for her.
Assuming that Beth was born on June 8th, 2010 (the air date of “Journey to Regionals”), there would be a 13 year gap between the two (I have Sugar’s birthday listed as June 4th, 2023).
In my Sugarverse, the Unholy Trinity are still close, which means Quinn plays a fairly significant role in Sugar’s life, and future!Brittana are still in contact with Shelby (which is hinted at in “All That We Left Behind”).
However, I would hesitate to say that Sugar and Beth are extremely close. In my Sugarverse, Brittana invites Shelby to dinner every so often and Beth tags along, though it’s only a rare occasion to catch up (Shelby and Brittana are all busy people, but they are reminded that they should have dinner or something because they run into each other often in New York, where they all live). I always imagined that when Beth is a teenager and Sugar is still a baby, Beth is polite and plays with baby Sugar, but they don’t get a lot of time to interact beyond that. I think that Sugar is closer to Brad the Piano Man’s grandchildren (see here).
(I do plan to fic some of their interaction, though, Anon; I’m working on a “Sugar is scoping out colleges after she’s done time traveling” fic and one of the main people she goes to for help is Quinn. She may also briefly consult Beth, who will be in her late 20s/early 30s by then).
POV: future!Sugar
Summary: When Brittany S. Pierce is your mother, hearing something like “I know how to make broccoli disappear” from your little brother is normal.
A/N: For JJ, who flails about Charlie Pierce-Lopez with me.
